RANDOM SNAP PORSCHE 918 RSR

Posted by Bakuryu 10:09 AM, under |

Speedhunters

Porsche dropped quite a few jaws today when they unveiled the 918 RSR at the Detroit Auto Show. Under all of that modern, yet slightly retro bodywork is the drivetrain of the 911 GT3 R Hybrid in all of its 767 horsepower, 10,300 rpm glory. I don't think anything else needs to be said. Porsche does it again. -Mike Garrett...

BEHIND THE SCENES SPEEDHUNTING IN DUBAI PT.3

Posted by Bakuryu 10:06 AM, under |

I'm finally getting back to finishing up my last story from my Dubai trip in December. It's hard to believe that only thirty days ago I was enjoying the sunshine and the exotic offerings of the middle east and now I am sat in a dark office with rain pounding the windows. I think I mentioned this in the previous posts, but one thing that really struck me about the Dubai car culture scene is the friendliness of everyone involved. Now, to be fair I've always regarded the car scene anywhere...

Up front is a new replacement front fascia that features larger carbon fiber air intakes for the radiators and elimination of the fog lights like the factory 997 GT2. A removable dry carbon fiber front lower spoiler adds additional down force to the front end while protecting the front bumper from any steep inclines or road hazards. The principal challenge of this front bumper was maximize weight savings . This was achieved by eliminating the fog lights, and replacing the factory plastic air ducts and hardware with carbon fiber ducting as a molded single component of the front bumper .
The V-RT rear bumper is also designed to offer the 997 Turbo with a wider stance with enlarged side intercooler extraction vents that house a replacement dry carbon fiber shroud that is approximately 35% larger for improved airflow through the intercoolers. The rear bumper also features a new molded carbon fiber rear diffuser with integrated twin aero fins that encompass the quad sport exhaust tips.
The V-RT rear end is completed with a carbon composite rear deck lid/engine cover with twin ram air scoops that feed air into the engine bay and air intake for maximum airflow and cooling. SLAMMED Cobra

Posted by Bakuryu 9:41 AM, under |

This native Dutch Cobra (replica) stole my attention as its blend modern styling applied to a classic platform gives off a powerful presence. From what I’ve read on Speed Hunters, this particular car is equipped with air bag, a fashion forward mod compromising handling. But, either way I love what’s going on here. It’s like an Alex Zhao Cobra lol

R-Magic Pink 4 TA 2010

Posted by Bakuryu 9:36 AM, under |

The R-Magic Pink 4 TA SPL in 2010 in AMAZING!

While talking to Allen from Tomei and Dino recently, both are heading to Australia to help set up and cover the Super Lap Battle. This is a great for you guys because it means there will be some insane photography and good inside info from the event. They were both at Fuji recently testing and Dino grabbed these snaps for speed hunters.

The car has been almost completely changed outside and under the hood. New body items include front splitter, front fenders, rear fenders. The result is absolutely perfect.

New Engine looks as good as before. It's tuned for Sonoco race fuel and offers big HP gains over the previous setup. We can expect this car to run some seious times. Based on looks I think it has the goods to topple the Pan Speed guys. But time shall tell about the performance.

Wheels are 18"x11.0"J "TE37 SL"  What is "SL"? It is a special version especially for Super Lap. This version is specially produced and they are 400g lighter for a similar sized wheel. This was before paint and the raw finish shaves weight and increases style! Are these the ultimate wheels? I think so! Special Rays stickers finish them off. They are now a darker colour after smoke and clear coat.

Kinoshita has his work cut out to learn eastern creek circuit, but as a pro, I'm sure he will be on the pace in no time at all.

Tsukuba is a much tighter track and the tyre compounds will be an issue for these cars. 55.947 in 2006 on a 2klm circuit is no measure 3.93klm and 2010 is a complete change. The cars are testing at fuji for a reason. Longer circuit and similar times around the 1.40 ish mark are to be expected.

Acura A flowing design amalgamated with green concepts

Posted by Bakuryu 4:46 AM, under |

The Beast:
Acura 2+1 is one of the most revolutionary future cars in terms of the way it is envisioned and the features that it would sport. Unlike many concept car designs, the beauty of Acura does not just lie in its outer shell. Designed by Leon Paz, the car has a lot more to it than the flowing design and the aerodynamic roof. It is loaded with cool eco-friendly features that make it perfect for the tomorrow’s green world.

The Machine:

Acura gets it spot on with its cool V6 engine being displayed in a transparent hood at the front. The car sports a cool and hip trend that is catching on in terms of hood windows. Its transparent roof comes with a coating of transparent solar panels that capture solar energy and provide the extra oomph for the car when needed. The engine is inaccessible to the consumer and the car is provided with an annual service system that revamps it each year with latest biofuel and organic upholstery for the interiors. The 2+1 seating offers both space and a styling option for the Acura

The Thrill:

This is one of the best and most practical designs of a concept car that has come about in a long time. Many of the features and idea stated by Leon might make their way into future automobile designs as the entire industry on wheels is trying hard to turn green.

JANUARY EDITORIAL ZOOM ZOOMING INTO 2009

Posted by Bakuryu 11:02 AM, under |

When I was a kid, my absolute favourite place in the world was Westwood Raceway. It was quite an amazing location, carved into the side of a mountain outside Vancouver, Canada. In the late 70s and early 80s, I used to spend a lot of time there, as my father and I used to race gokarts. I was fairly quick in my time, but I didn't really like racing that much to be honest... I found it to be quite stressful. For me, the most fun part about being at Westwood, was watching the car races. After each...

CAR SPOTLIGHT BMW PERFORMANCE IMOLA

Posted by Bakuryu 10:55 AM, under |

When at Imola the other week I spotted a couple of interesting looking factory modified BMW's sitting in the paddock. First up the 123d here is fitted with the full BMW Performance package, which adds some tantalizing parts like the sportier front bumper, side skirts with air intake...
...and a nice carbon lip spoiler.
Sitting next to it was this 335i sedan, wearing some very aggressively styled 19-inch wheels. We asked the guys at BMW if we could take the car into the pits to grab some quick pictures, something they were more than happy to arrange.
The 1-series however had already been moved into the little display booth in the BMW hospitality area, but it didn't matter as the tiled floor and excellent lighting made for a nice ambiance.
The exterior package is joined by a pair of reclinable bucket seats, clad in soft suede and leather. They are even fitted with a side airbag, just in case things go wrong.
They are accompanied by the sports steering wheel, which on top of the suede leather features a digital display on the top part of the rim and sequentially lit LED strips just like on an F1 steering wheel.
The BMW Performance treatment is topped off with carbon fiber trim for the interior.
The 123d rides on special 18-inch wheels and Bridgestone Potenza tires. Lowered suspension help sharpen up the handling while the massive 6-pot calipers from the 135i keep braking under control.
Carbon mirrors are the cherry on the cake!
The sedate look of the 4-door 335i has been spiced up with BMW Performance front and rear bumpers. Notice the blacked out grille, a very nice touch.
Under the hood the twin turbocharged 3L straight six has been remapped to offer an additional 20 HP, bringing power up to 326 HP. Torque gets a nice bump too.
Here is a closer view of those BMW Performance 19-inch wheels. Would have been nice to see the same 6-pot brakes from the 123d used on the 335i, as I'm sure they would definitely come in handy given the power and weight of the larger car. It is great to see BMW is giving enthusiasts top quality products to spice up their cars, let's hope the line-up will grow in the future with all other BMW models being catered for.
